Podium’s Seventh Annual Awesome Adult Spelling Bee is slated for Thursday, May 24, 2018, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at RVA Event Space at Plant Zero, located at 0 East 4th Street, Richmond.
Podium is a nonprofit based in Richmond, whose mission is to inspire Richmond youth to become confident and capable writers with the skills necessary to succeed in school, career and life.
The bee is a networking event that provides much-needed revenue for Podium’s after-school programs for middle and high school-aged youth across Richmond. In 2017, Podium programs reached over 400 Richmond youth thanks to the success of last year’s event. Proceeds this year will fund Podium’s reading, writing and communication programs for children ages ten to nineteen.
Happy hour starts at 5:00 pm, with the competition starting at 6:30. The winning team will receive a trophy topped by a golden bee. Attendees will enjoy craft beer from two local breweries, Stone Brewing and Legend Brewing Co, and food provided by Station 2, Greek on Cary, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Secret Sandwich Society, Chick-fil-a, Frostings, and more. There will also be a raffle with prizes from local merchants, including The Veil Brewing Co, Redskins Football, Dave & Buster’s, Real Richmond Food Tours, Lucid Living, Blue Bee Cider, Go Ape, Baker Unified Fitness, James River Writers, Simplify Me Ranee and Lett’s Do Hair.
