Glen Allen, VA (September 25, 2013) — The Sophie House, a nonprofit that provides supportive services for single women and their children, will host a 5k race and festivities on Oct. 5 beginning at 8 a.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Race proceeds will benefit the Ellen Shaw de Paredes Foundation, The Sophie House and The Deep Run Marathon Dance.
Following the race, festivities will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. including music, a bounce house, Kona Ice, face painting, and a variety of vendors.
Sponsors include Marketing Partners-Val Pak/Reach Magazine, Jason’s Deli, AFLAC, HCA Breast Care Network, Canine Companions for Independence, BB&T, Pepsi, Mercy Mall, Get Motivated, Push4Success, Safe Harbor, James Towey, Esq. Consulting and Amped Audio. Mount Vernon Baptist Church has partnered with The Sophie House for the event.
Awards will go to top finishers including the “Pink Out” award for the person wearing the most pink.
Race timing will be provided by Commonwealth Timing & Race Management LLC. Packet pickup will occur on Oct. 3 and 4 from 4-7:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
“One person can make a difference; collaboration can change a community,” says Kimberly Braine-Tillem, founder and executive director, The Sophie House. “This one event will be helping women who are battling breast cancer, honor those who have passed and those who have survived! We are banding together to bring awareness to the cause while raising awareness of many different nonprofits in the Richmond area. Your presence and participation will have a lasting impact on our community!”
