Virginia Repertory Theatre has hired Vivian Preston Schwartz as education manager to lead its camps and special programs such as Tiny Tales for Preschoolers and Story Dramas and Workshops.
Schwartz holds a master’s degree in acting from the New School for Drama in New York City as well as a masters in educational theater from NYU. Working for over a decade as an actor in New York, Vivian found her love of teaching through the joys of youth-driven theater. “I adore young people and believe with all my spirit that theater creates avenues for young people to develop their worldviews, empathy, and become contributing and inclusive community members,” Schwartz said.
Schwartz begins her work with Virginia Rep’s in-person Spring Break Camp scheduled for April 1 through 5 at Virginia Rep Center for Arts and Education, 4204 Hermitage Road, Richmond (former Scottish Rite Temple near Bryan Park).
Each day includes drama, music, dance and a production craft taught by Virginia Rep’s theatre professionals and educators. Campers are divided into three groups by grade level (or age) for the majority of their activities, but come together in rehearsals for the showcase-style performance. The experience will encourage and support both the novice and the seasoned performer.
