American Youth Harp Ensemble, the nation’s premier harp ensemble, will present a free concert on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Bridget Church, 6006 Three Chopt Road, Richmond, Virginia 23226 at 7:00 p.m.
Audiences will be treated to a preview of their feature performance at the World Harp Congress in Sydney, Australia – the most prestigious performance invitation in the harp world. From Medieval to Modern, Classical to Jazz, concert-goers will be enthralled by these world-class performers which have been called “a national cultural treasure” by the U.S. Department of State’s Cultural Arts Director. Donations will be accepted at the concert.
The American Youth Harp Ensemble, in cooperation with the HARPS Foundation, offers tuition-free harp instruction and performance opportunities to under-served youth in inner-city and rural areas. As students advance from these programs into the AYHE, they have the opportunity to participate in performances in professional venues, travel domestically and internationally, and receive college scholarships. In striving for these goals, students gain an appreciation for intense work and commitment and develop the confidence and skills necessary for success in music and in life.
Recognized nationally as a model arts education program, the Richmond-based American Youth Harp Ensemble serves more than 300 young harpists, ages five to eighteen, annually. For more information, visit www.harpensemble.org or contact Karen Ganiard, Director of Advancement, at (804) 837-9355.
