The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering two historical programs this May.
A tour of the house and grounds of historic Eppington Plantation will be held Saturday, May 4, from 10-11 a.m. Experience what plantation life was like in the 1700s at Eppington Plantation, a large tobacco plantation built in 1768 by Thomas Jefferson’s brother-in-law, Francis Eppes VI. The house, which is rarely open to the public, features items on display from the Eppes and Hines-Cherry families, as well as agricultural displays. The tour is $8 per person (course 27048).
Cub Scouts looking to earn their geology pin can participate in a geology pin workshop, Saturday, May 4, 2-4 p.m., at Mid-Lothian Mines Park. Scouts will learn about geology, how coal is formed and how to conduct a scale-hardness test. A tour of a geological historical site is included. The program is $10 per scout (course 27040).
Registration is required for both events. For more information, call Bryan Truzzie, 804-751-4946, or email truzzieb@chesterfield.gov. To register, call 804-748-1623.
