The Science Museum of Virginia is extending extra warm wishes this holiday season. It will be cold outside, but during winter break the Science Museum is getting hot, hot, hot with Sizzling Science.
From December 26 through January 1, the Science Museum is cranking up the heat on discovery with special activities throughout the building to get guests fired up about STEM. Programming includes:
- Firework combustion demos
- Desert plant and animal adaptation explorations
- Shrinky Dink making
- Urban Heat Island challenges
- Hot pepper tastings
- Science on a Sphere volcano presentations
In addition to the activities, guests can explore “Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity” before it closes January 15. The touring exhibition examines the shape-shifting, color-changing, thought-provoking organ from both the biological and cultural perspective. Dozens of hands-on interactives will spark interest and ignite discovery for guests of all ages.
Sizzling Science activities take place December 26 through January 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are four features playing in The Dome during Sizzling Science, two astronomy shows and two giant screen films. Guests can add a Dome ticket to their visit for “Volcanoes – The Fires of Creation” at 11 a.m., “Living Worlds” at noon, “Into America’s Wild” at 2 p.m. and “We Are Stars” at 3 p.m.
Sizzling Science activities are included with regular Science Museum admission, which is $16 for adults; $13.50 for youth (ages 6 – 12) and seniors (ages 60 and older); and $10 for preschool-aged children (ages 3 – 5). Dome features are $5 per person.
