This fall, Virginia Physicians for Women is thrilled to welcome five new doctors who are proud to join the practice voted best OB/GYN care in Richmond three years in a row.
All Virginia natives who have recently finished their OB/GYN residencies, Drs. Carolanne Kondos, Kathryn D. Lucas, Liz Pinkerton, Ashley Uvanni, and Anu Zavelsky are settling in at their VPFW offices and are excited to be seeing patients. They are some of the smartest and nicest women you’ll meet, and we couldn’t be happier to have each one as part of the VPFW team. We hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about each one and help us welcome them to the VPFW family.
Dr. Carlanne Kondos hails from Stafford, Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia where she was a cheerleader and attended medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Ascension Providence Hospital at Michigan State University in Southfield, MI and Novi, MI.
Dr. Kondos sees patients at VPFW’s Henrico Doctors’, St. Mary’s, and West Creek offices and delivers babies at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. Her special professional interests include individualized prenatal care and low-intervention birth, high-risk obstetrics, adolescent gynecology, abnormal uterine bleeding, robotic surgery, and contraceptive management.

Dr. Kathryn Lucas was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of South Carolina and received her medical degree at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville. She completed her OB/GYN residency at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Lucas sees patients at VPFW’s St. Francis and Prince George offices and delivers babies at St. Francis Medical Center. Her special professional interests include low- and higher-risk prenatal care, comprehensive postpartum care, minimally invasive gynecological surgery/laparoscopy, abnormal uterine bleeding, contraception and family planning, and routine gynecological care and screening.

Dr. Liz Pinkerton grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. She attended college at Emory University, and completed medical training at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond.
Dr. Pinkerton sees patients at VPFW’s Koger Center and Prince George offices and delivers babies at Johnston-Willis Hospital. Her special professional interests include abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, contraception management, routine prenatal and gynecologic care, and preventative screening.

Dr. Ashley Uvanni was born and raised here in Richmond. Her journey began as a Hokie at Virginia Tech, and her medical school pursuits led her to Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Wellspan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Uvanni sees patients at VPFW’s St. Mary’s and West Creek offices and delivers babies at St. Mary’s Hospital (where she was born!) and Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. Dr. Uvanni’s special professional interests include menopause, robotic surgery, adolescent gynecology, contraception, and obstetrical care.

Dr. Anu Zavelsky grew up in Richmond and attended the College of William and Mary. After becoming a medical scribe at the Williamsburg Emergency Department and then starting the medical scribe program at VCU Emergency Department, she went to medical school at VCU School of Medicine. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.
Dr. Zavelsky sees patients at VPFW’s Koger Center and Prince George offices and delivers babies at Johnston-Willis Hospital. Her special professional interests include high-risk obstetrics, sexual health and wellness, trauma-informed care, contraception and family planning, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and inclusive reproductive healthcare.
