Better Housing Coalition Launches Stay Home RVA Fundraiser

Founded in 1988, the Better Housing Coalition is the Richmond region’s largest nonprofit community development corporation. Its mission is to change lives and transform communities through high-quality, affordable housing. BHC owns and manages fifteen rental communities across Greater Richmond for working families and seniors of modest means. Though the annual income range of Lincoln Mews residents varies widely (from under $1,000 for a family of three to nearly $60,000 for a family of five), the average annual household income across the 245-unit property is $20,735.

To help the 2,000-plus residents of its rental communities build paths to brighter futures, BHC offers free and voluntary resident support programs. Delivered onsite by BHC staff, the programs are underwritten by philanthropic donations.

For the team at BHC, helping Richmond-area families connect with affordable housing brings them one step closer to realizing their own dreams and goals for the community.

“People think of BHC as a housing organization, and that’s true in a sense,” said Pam Crawford, a resident services coordinator with BHS. “But once families are free from the stress of poor living conditions and worrying where the next month’s rent will come from, real transformation can take place. With our business model, housing is a springboard to greater opportunities.”

Support the Better Housing Coalition through “Stay Home RVA”

May 10 through 17, BHC is holding “Stay Home RVA,” Richmond’s first non-event gala to raise funds for its mission. Stay Home RVA is an invitation to not attend another charity event, while helping to make a real difference in your community.

Turn a night out into a night in to help BHC increase access to affordable housing for those who need it most. First, stay home. Donate what you might have paid for tickets, a babysitter, parking or party clothes to BHC. Next, get comfortable, download one of our suggested menus and playlists, and host a non-party with friends. Or, enjoy dinner with family – the choice is yours. Without the overhead of a gala event, Stay Home RVA allows all of your donation dollars to go directly to BHC’s mission.
