Let there be light!

I’ve made up my mind, the day we set the clocks ahead each spring is officially my favorite day of the year (and I am not one to take losing an hour’s sleep lightly).

It really hit me this year just how sharp the contrast is between the fun-filled evenings of summer, when there is still a smidge of daylight as late as nine o’clock, and the dreariness of winter, when darkness falls just after four-thirty. That is a crazy-big difference! Over four hours of bike riding, gardening, grilling out, and dog-walking time – GONE!

But spring has arrived at last, each day getting a little longer, and we are able to spend our evening hours outdoors once again. Yes, I admit that getting out of bed in the morning darkness totally stinks, but I am not a morning person either way, so I’ll take that trade-off to get my evening daylight back.

And spring’s arrival can only mean one thing – summer is right around the corner! And that means summer camps across the region are planning fun, educational, and thoroughly exhausting programs for your kids’ enjoyment (and your sanity), and we are bringing over sixty of them together for one amazing afternoon of planning and fun for the whole family.

It’s the RFM Summer Adventure Expo!

Mark your calendar for Sunday, April 15, from one to four o’clock, and head on over to the covered outdoor field at SCOR (Sports Complex of Richmond, 1385 Overbrook Road). That’s where we’ll be set up with all the info you’ll need to put together your family’s best summer ever. Inside, your kids will be among the first to get a free climb on the rock walls at Peak Experiences’ brand-new second location, twice as large as its original southside spot where our Expo has been held for the last seven years.

Joining us at the Expo, media sponsors Mix 98.1 and WCVE will add to the family energy of the day, along with our presenting sponsor, Virginia Family Dentistry, and our other sponsors, Allergy Partners, At Your Door Pediatrics, Call Federal, Chick-fil-A Willow Lawn, Launch Trampoline, and School of Rock.

It’s a fantastic day full of crafts, games, live demonstrations, door prizes, and more from your favorite camps, plus Papa John’s, the Boardwalk, and Gelati Celesti food trucks will be there when it’s time for a bite to eat.

And you know what? When the Expo is over, you’ll still have more than four hours of daylight left to hang out with your family at home!
