Does Your Kroger Have a Meal Kit Station?

There are some days (okay, a lot of days) that my hubby and I are feeling uninspired when it comes to dinner planning. I mean, it does come around every single day for crying out loud, and while we always want to put a lot of time and effort into the planning, shopping, and prepping for healthy and tasty meals for our family, oftentimes, life (and lack of time and/or energy) gets in the way.

Fortunately, the team at Kroger has come to the rescue with their new Home Chef meal kits, available near the front of eleven of the Kroger’s eighteen Richmond area stores. The meal kit menus rotate weekly and showcase a variety of classic meals made from fresh and pre-portioned ingredients, including Home Chef Express meal kits that can be prepared in fifteen minutes or less. Each meal kit is designed to serve two and starts at $8.50 per serving (so $17 each).

The evening we visited, our choices were maple-glazed pork tenderloin, chicken fajitas, steak strip marsala risotto, chicken with basil-pecorino cream sauce, mini cheeseburger flatbreads, and salmon with miso butter. Since I was picking it up close to dinnertime, and it happened to be Cinco de Mayo, I went with the chicken fajitas, one of the Ready in 15 Minutes options. We got two kits to feed five of us, and we had plenty, with a few leftovers. The directions (complete with pictures for each step, which I appreciate) were easy to follow, and the ingredients were all fresh and individually packaged, so there was no worry of raw chicken goo getting all over the rest of the ingredients. If I had one nit-picky bit of constructive criticism, I would say it would have been nice to have the chicken already cut into strips (because no one likes messing with raw chicken).

Three generations of eaters were pleased with the finished product, and we all agreed that it was a quick answer to the “what to have for dinner tonight” question, without having to completely break the bank by going out to dinner. We’re looking forward to trying more of Kroger’s Meal Kits, especially during this busy time of year.
