Little Kicks at Home Tailors Outdoor Soccer Fun to Families

Fifteen Families Hosted Sessions Throughout Richmond

With a majority of families working and learning from home, the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club decided to bring the pioneering Little Kicks Curriculum to families directly through Little Kicks At Home.

This fall, the club opened registration for families to host the Little Kicks program in their own backyard or neighborhood field with families they know. Energetic and enthusiastic instructors come weekly and bring all the necessary equipment to hold a fun, interactive session. The modified curriculum offers the joy of the game, while following safety guidelines recommended by local health officials.

“As a parent during these trying times, I want to create a sense of normalcy for my children as much as possible,” commented Amy MacKenzie, director of Little Kicks. “What’s more normal than kids playing soccer in the backyard?”

Little Kicks At Home has had a great introductory season with fifteen host families all over Richmond. According to MacKenzie, the participation exceeded expectations for a new program.

“It was wonderful,” said Kristen Dutton, who has hosted a Little Kicks At Home session. “Oh my gosh, the kids were so happy to be back in soccer, the parents were thrilled, and the coaches were lovely. It was such a great balance of instruction and fun. Thank you so much for offering this! Our kids are all so happy to be out on the field together”

Serving more than 3,000 participants at seventy centers, Little Kicks serves as the entry-level program for the Kickers. Sessions offer soccer instruction, drills, and games. Parents enroll their children in a positive, fun activity. The team atmosphere fosters life skills and socialization at a crucial developmental age. The many positive aspects of the sport diversity and enhance the child’s learning experience.
