Advanced Orthopaedics and Ortho On-Call to collect sports gear to benefit programs of Fit4Kids
On Monday, September 16, 2013 Advanced Orthopaedics and Ortho On-Call will launch a new community initiative designed to increase recreation options and active living at home and school for area kids who do not have access to usable sports equipment. The public is encouraged to gather up the sports equipment that they no longer use and that is still in good condition and donate it to the AdvanceItUp! initiative. This gently used sports gear will help to get local children up and active through the programs of Greater Richmond Fit4Kids.
The physicians and staff from Advanced Orthopaedics and Ortho On-Call, along with volunteers from Fit4Kids, will collect, organize, and clean the equipment before distribution. “Advanced Orthopaedics is excited to have yet another way to give back to the community with AdvanceItUp,” explains Dr. Kenneth Zaslav, president of Advanced Orthopaedics and a Sports Medicine Specialist. “Our goal is a more active and healthy youth in Richmond achieved by providing gently used sporting equipment to area children lacking the resources. This will help make group sports and organized physical activity a more regular occurrence in their lives.”
Donations will be accepted from September 16 through October 17, 2013. Collection points include Advanced Orthopaedics on Shrader Road, both Ortho On-Call locations (Midlothian and Westbury), and the Science Museum of Virginia, location of the Greater Richmond Fit4Kids office. The program will accept most types of sporting equipment, however, a comprehensive list of the most needed equipment as well as the details of the four main drop off locations are available at AdvancedOrtho.me/AdvanceItUp.

Greater Richmond Fit4Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and wellness of children by increasing physical activity and promoting healthy eating. “Giving sporting equipment to children in Fit4Kids’ programs helps them adopt the healthy habits we teach and encourages them to lead an active lifestyle at home,” says Mary Dunne Stewart, Executive Director of Greater Richmond Fit4Kids. “Some of the equipment will also be donated to the Physical Education department of Richmond City Public Schools to supplement their efforts to promote a physically active lifestyle in their students.” Learn more atwww.grfit4kids.org.

Advanced Orthopaedics is a full-service orthopaedic practice located in Central Virginia. Patients are treated by the expertise of a trained subspecialist, a physician who dedicates his entire practice to one area of orthopaedics. Advanced Orthopaedics features ten separate “Centers of Excellence.” Each center focuses on the treatment of one specific area of the body or one type of orthopaedic health concern. All of the centers combined provide excellent full-service orthopaedic care. Advanced Orthopaedics is one of the few practices in the nation where each physician specializes not only in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, but in a particular branch of orthopaedics as well. Ortho On-Call is the area’s first walk-in urgent care clinic designed to treat acute orthopaedic-related injuries and conditions. Ortho On-Call only treats orthopaedic injuries, so patients do not compete for care with patients who may have serious medical problems that take longer to diagnose and treat. Ortho On-Call is supported by the board-certified physicians and full-service therapies at Advanced Orthopaedic Centers. Learn more at www.orthooncall.me.
