Geology Programs at Mid-Lothian Mines

The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering two family-friendly programs Saturday, Nov. 9, at Mid-Lothian Mines Park, 13301 North Woolridge Road. To register, call 804-748-1623 and mention the course number, or use REGi, the online registration program at http://www.chesterfield.gov/parks/. Midlothian Mines Park Tour (Course 27395)
Take a guided tour through the park and learn more about the pioneer coal industry in Midlothian, one of the first commercial coal mine operations in North America. Learn about early railroads, the need for transportation improvements and the impact that coal mining had on our region in the 1700s and 1800s.
Saturday, Nov. 9 10-11 a.m. $8

Midlothian Mines Geocache Hunt (Course 27388)
Visit the site of one of the first commercial coal mines in North America. Explore the ruins of the Grove Shaft and learn about the coal mining history of Midlothian while searching for caches. Uncover clues to history while learning GPS skills. Garmin hand-held receivers will be provided. This program is for adults and youths aged 8 and older.
