hunger-relief services in Richmond!

FeedMore, a Feeding America member agency and Central Virginia’s hunger-relief leader, has announced a $200,000 grant from its long-time partner Capital One to help support hunger-relief services in Richmond as well as its Mobile Pantry, an adaptable, rapid response program that helps to ensure the procurement and distribution of food and meals to nourish families in Richmond and throughout Central Virginia. The grant continues the longstanding partnership between FeedMore and Capital One, which began in 1996 and has resulted in more than one million dollars in donations and more than 3.5 million meals donated to the Central Virginia community to date.

“In the wake of recent budget and program cuts and with the coming holidays, our continued work to bridge the meal gap in Central Virginia is both timely and significant,” said Doug Pick, FeedMore CEO. “We are excited to work with Capital One, our largest corporate partner by both funding and volunteer hours, to help meet the food-needs in our local Virginia communities and continue to provide 75,000 meals a day to feed hungry neighbors through donations, grants and volunteerism.”

The grant provided by Capital One will provide approximately one million meals to help aid hunger-relief across Central Virginia’s 31 counties and 5 cities, ranging from rural and suburban to urban localities that FeedMore serves daily. FeedMore’s reach spans nearly one-third of the state of Virginia and within its service footprint, one in seven individuals and one in seven children are food-insecure and unable to consistently access nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Capital One’s support, part of its Investing for Good program, which works to make an impact in the local communities where Capital One associates live and work, will help FeedMore bring nutritious and much-needed food to vulnerable populations, particularly children, families and seniors, in the local community.

“At Capital One we recognize that investing in the health of families and individuals is vital to building strong, thriving communities,” said David Wright, Senior Vice President, Capital One. “As Richmond’s largest private employer, Capital One is proud to partner with FeedMore to support programs that meet the crucial needs of our communities and help to create a brighter future for families here and throughout Central Virginia.”

FeedMore and Capital One are pleased to extend their longstanding partnership, which serves the Central Virginia community. Capital One is a founding corporate sponsor of FeedMore’s Kids Café program, one of the nation’s largest meal service programs that provides safe places for children to meet role models and to participate in activities designed to enhance their educational, physical and social development. The company is proud to offer continual support to FeedMore through both grants and volunteerism. In 2013 alone, more than 1,000 Capital One associates volunteered more than 3,500 hours and continue to play a key role in FeedMore’s and Capital One’s collaborations.

Additionally, Capital One associates volunteered with FeedMore during Capital One’s 2013 OneWeek, a community service initiative, building on the company’s strong tradition of employee volunteerism and commitment to supporting local communities. During OneWeekmore than 300 Capital One associates volunteered at 24 FeedMore events throughout Richmond and donated more than 1,000 hours of volunteerism.
