It’s Time to Put the “Squeeze” on Childhood Cancer
Anthem LemonAid July 20-22
Registration Now Open for Anthem LemonAid

RICHMOND, VA. – April 2, 2012 –Over the last 10 years, Richmond-ers have taken a stand against childhood cancer to help local children battling this ugly illness. Anthem LemonAid, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ summer-time, community-wide fundraising event, has raised more than $726,000 in support for the hematology and oncology clinic at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). July 20-22, children, families and businesses throughout Central Virginia will again be invited to host LemonAid stands to raise funds for cancer treatment and research at CHoR.

All registrants receive a FREE LemonAid kit complete with lemonade, cups, a pitcher, balloons, stickers and signage to help decorate their stands. These complimentary supplies are provided upon registration and through the generosity of local businesses with passion for helping children. All you have to do is pick the spot– a local business, neighborhood pool or your front yard and set up your stand!
To register to host a stand or learn more about the Anthem LemonAid program, please visit www.anthemlemonaid.com or call (804) 228-5934. Registration is limited, so be sure to sign up today.

Anthem LemonAid funds benefit our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, and have helped achieve great things for the children in our community over the last ten years. This year, the funds raised through this program will support the blood and marrow transplant program at CHoR. This program is the only pediatric comprehensive unit in Virginia and serves children from all over the state in need of this very specialized treatment of cancer and other blood disorders.

“Kids come first at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.” CHoR’s dedicated staff is committed to providing the most compassionate environment for patients and their families. By supporting CHoR’s blood and marrow transplant program which demands an especially high level of qualified medical support, the oncology team hopes to enhance and expand patient support by providing enhanced education, family support and clinical research in this area of cancer treatment. Kamar Godder, MD, professor and chief of the division of hematology and oncology at CHoR said, “I am confident that with [the] expansion of those services, patient satisfaction and outcomes will improve.”

This program would not be possible without partners who help ensure that we continue to provide this opportunity for essential medical support across the community. Anthem LemonAid is sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, M & T Bank, Panera Bread, Richmond Family Magazine, Walmart and Sam’s Club.
