Massey Hosts Screening Soirée to Promote Mammograms

VCU Massey Cancer Center invites the community to gather and celebrate women taking care of their health at the Screening Soirée presented by Women & Wellness Forum Series. The Screening Soirée is a special opportunity for twenty women to have their first mammogram as part of a festive kick off to the 20th Annual Women & Wellness Forum Series. This event will take place at VCU Massey Cancer Center at Stony Point on Tuesday, October 7 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

This first time event encourages women to “make an appointment, not an excuse,” and will feature Geralyn Lucas, a 20-year breast cancer survivor, author and a past Women & Wellness speaker as well as:

· Prizes, food and fun for all attendees

· Survivors and supporters cheering on participants

· Book signing of Geralyn Lucas’ second book, Then Came Life

VCU Breast Imaging has twenty mammogram appointments available between 2:00 and 5:00 pm at their Stony Point location, at 9000 Stony Point Parkway. Normal cost and insurance requirements apply; participants should consult their insurance for eligibility prior to making an appointment.

“We are pleased to begin the celebration of our 20th anniversary with such a special event to spread our mission of education and awareness. For many women, the first mammogram is an important rite of passage, but one that can easily get put off in the midst of busy lives. This platform gives women an excellent opportunity to make an appointment to take care of themselves and their health,” said Ellen Bonbright, chair, 2015 Women & Wellness Forum Series.

The celebration continues with Screening Soirée – After Party at The Byrd Theatre with a special screening of Geralyn’s first book, turned movie, Why I Wore Lipstick to my Masectomy. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. and is followed by a meet and greet with Geralyn as well as a book signing for her latest title, Then Came Life. Tickets are $20 each and books may be purchased separately at the event through our onsite book partner BBGB.
