The Leaves Will Be Falling And The Wine Pouring
At The 12th Annual Powhatan’s Festival Of The Grape Saturday, October 25th
Powhatan, VA – The 12th annual Powhatan’s Festival Of The Grape will be held in Powhatan’s historic Courthouse Square on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 11 am to 6 pm. This fall tradition provides the opportunity to sample and enjoy wines from 30 Virginia wineries and for those who prefer hops over grapes, a craft beer truck will also be on the grounds. In addition to the many regional food vendors, goods from artisans and craftspeople will be available for purchase and live music will be performed throughout the day by Southern Tide and The Janitors.
Tickets for wine tasting or to purchase beer are $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the event, with “non-tasting” tickets available for $15, children 12 and under are admitted free. All patrons must show identification at the entrance gates and wear applicable wrist bands. Discounted group tickets are also available and all tickets can be purchased online at PowhatanWineFestival.com . A limited number of tickets can be purchased at local outlets including the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce office, all C&F Bank locations, New Horizon Bank, Village Bank, Powhatan Pharmacy and Gifts, and Plaza Pharmacy.
New to the festival this year is a hat parade. Participants are encouraged to design and create their own hats themed with a Powhatan’s Festival Of The Grape flair and should line up at the main stage at 1:15 to enter the parade which will start at 1:30 pm. Hats will be judged and prizes awarded including a one night getaway to Sheraton Park Hotel in Midlothian, a $20 Gift Certificate to the County Seat Restaurant, wine glasses, wine bag, and more.
“There is great deal of excitement around this, our 12th Powhatan’s Festival of the Grape! We decided to bring fresh life to the festival with new bands playing and a hat parade, all under our picturesque blue skies! Don’t miss out on this day of wine, sun, crafts, and food that you can share your friends and with a wonderful diverse group of other fun loving folks,” stated Susan Ashe, PFOTG co-founder, and present committee member. Since July 2003, residents, businesses and volunteers have worked tirelessly to host one of Virginia’s most successful and well attended wine festivals. Held annually in October since 2006, the beautiful fall foliage creates the perfect landscape and the cooler temperatures lend energy for an expected crowd of approximately 7,000 people.
The festival is hosted by the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce and serves as a fundraiser to support membership endeavors and other expenses. Each year the PFOTG committee chooses a local not-for-profit organization which will receive a portion of the net proceeds from the event. This year two Powhatan organizations will benefit: Backpacks of Love and the Powhatan Band Boosters. The Powhatan Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize signature sponsor W.G.
