BATTERY PARK TOURNAMENT: TENNIS SEASON NOT OVER YET

RICHMOND, VA – OCTOBER 7, 2012 – With autumn in the air, kids and parents are squeezing in the last outdoor tournaments of the year, and next weekend presents one more tennis tournament before the cooler weather arrives.  The last tournament in the three-part series of the Battery Park Junior Open (BPJO) will be held October 13-14.  The Richmond Tennis Association (RTA) and the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities will partner to present the event, which will be held at Battery Park.

Now in its second year, the BPJO series was the 2011 recipient of the United States Tennis Association/Mid-Atlantic Section award for the Junior Tournament of the Year.  With a format that offers both L4 and L6 levels of play, it is designed to provide players new to tennis or new to tournaments the opportunity to compete without the high costs and intensity of typical tournaments. Over 70 players are expected to compete in 8-and-under to 18-and-under age divisions.

Registration deadline is midnight October 8. Players can registration online at www.usta.com using tournament ID #300019412. For more information about the tournament, please contact Shima Grover, 804-750-1781.  For more information about RTA, a Section 501(c) (3) public charity dedicated to the promotion of tennis and good sportsmanship in the Richmond area, please visit www.richmondtennis.org.
