Elko Community Center Grand Re-Opening and Dedication

Henrico County will dedicate Elko Community Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 27 at 6216 White Oak Road in Sandston.

This event which is open to the public, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and will feature remarks by county officials, facility tours, children’s activities, games, exhibits, classic cars, food, and music by Churchyard Grass.

Built in 1924, the community center was a meeting place for the Windsor Club of Elko. During World War II the Elko community gained some historical significance when the United States military converted part of the Elko Tract into a decoy airfield in an effort to secure Byrd Airport.

Overflow parking for this event is available at Elko Middle School.  A shuttle will be provided. For more information on this event, call Sheila Cunningham at (804) 795-2334 or go to www.henricorecandparks.com.
