Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre Celebrates the Holidays with The Velveteen Rabbit and Brunch with Snow Bear at Family Meal

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of The Velveteen Rabbit on Friday, December 4 at the Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Drive. The show runs through January 3. This childhood favorite is based on the novel by Margery Williams and adapted by Burgess Clark. Directed by K Strong, The Velveteen Rabbit tells the story of the unconditional bond between a boy and his toy bunny and the meaning of becoming “real”. The show lasts for one hour and is best enjoyed by children ages 3 and up. Following several Saturday performances, patrons can join Snow Bear and cast members from the show for a light brunch and sing along next door at Family Meal.

Making his Children’s Theatre debut, A.A. “Corbin” Puryear portrays the role of The Velveteen Rabbit. Puryear recently toured in Hugs & Kisses with Virginia Rep on Tour. Also hitting the Virginia Rep stage for the first time are 12 year old Hart Isaacoff in the role of Boy and Rachel Dilliplane, a recent graduate of Washington College, as a Puppeteer. Rounding out the cast are Sara Heifetz, Todd Patterson, K Strong, and Gordon Bass. Strong and Bass were both cast members in the 2009 production.

Snow Bear brunches will be hosted at Family Meal, located next door to the Children’s Theatre and will take place following the 10:30 a.m. performances at noon on December 5, December 12, and December 19. Families will enjoy brunch as well as singing, dancing, and an opportunity to meet Snow Bear, and several cast members from The Velveteen Rabbit.
