It’s RFM Summer Adventure Expo Month, and we’re gearing up to show you one great time back at Peak Experiences. In case you don’t have the date highlighted, starred, and smiley-faced on your calendar, this year’s Expo will be held on Sunday, April 17, from one to four, and as always, it’s outdoors and rain-or-shine (we’ve even had sleet and snow – it was still a blast!).
We’ll have lots of summer camps on-hand to tell you all about the fun things they have planned for your kids this summer. There will also be the obligatory RVA food trucks, like The Boardwalk with tasty lunch fare, and save room for Gelati Celesti with their amazing homemade ice cream. You’ll be treated to a live performance from School of Rock, and we’ll have games, prizes, and of course, a free rock climb for the kids! You seriously don’t want to miss this. And be sure to find me and say hi – I love meeting our readers in person!
There are a ton of other fun things going on this month around Richmond, and we’re excited to be part of many of them. We’ll show Mother Earth our sincere appreciation at the annual Richmond Earth Day Festival, on Saturday, April 23, at Great Shiplock Park in Shockoe Bottom. If you haven’t been to this park, you’ll love it, and I promise, it’s easy to get to with the whole family. There will be eco-friendly activities and games, a craft market, kayak rides, and even guided mountain bike rides along the Capital Trail. while you’re there.
Looking to get fit and give back this spring? We’ve got you covered, but there’s a catch. You have to make some choices since lots of them are on the same day (why, oh why can’t there be more Saturdays and fewer Mondays?)! Saturday, April 30 is the big day, and here are a few of the options:
You can dress up like a superhero and join us at St. Joseph’s Villa for the CASA Superhero Run. Check-in begins at eight in the morning, with the Kids’ Run an hour later, and then the timed 5K. There will be prizes for race results and costumes – fun! Read more about it on page 79.
Right down the street from there at the Diamond, we’ll also be out at the ASK 5K and Fun Walk. There will be spirit stops along the course and a post-race festival, featuring live music with the Jangling Reinharts, food, and activities for the kids. Learn more on page 78.
If you’re looking for something on the other side of the James, check out the Walk for Wishes at Stony Point Fashion Park. Check-in begins bright and early at seven-thirty, with the walk an hour later. Enjoy a post-walk Kids Zone, featuring the Richmond SWAT Team, a petting zoo, local mascots, a bounce house, and more.
