Fifth Annual Dunk Hunger Food Drive Contributes 75,246 Pounds to FeedMore
An epic battle ensued across Richmond all summer long, as swim teams and pools competed to help end chronic hunger in RFM’s Dunk Hunger 2016. When the campaign ended and all of the donations were tallied, this year’s community effort raised the equivalent of 75,246 pounds for FeedMore. Avalon Swim Team claimed this year’s Gold Medal and picked up a $1,000 cash prize, courtesy of Dunk Hunger’s co-presenting sponsor, Nova Swim. Other top finishers were Silver Medal Winner, Wyndham Tidal Waves, followed by Canterbury Recreation, Hungary Creek, and Burkwood.
“We are extremely grateful for the continued support we receive from Richmond Family Magazine’s Dunk Hunger food drive,” said Tim McDermott, chief development officer at FeedMore. “To date, Dunk Hunger has helped us provide for more than 215,163 pounds of food to our neighbors in their times of need. In addition to collecting food to distribute across our 34-city and county service area, Dunk Hunger also helps us raise awareness about the serious issue of chronic hunger in Central Virginia. We are so grateful for the swimmers, their families and pools clubs who come together to fight hunger.”
All of Dunk Hunger’s success wouldn’t be possible without the help of key community partners. Dunk Hunger is presented by RFM and Nova Swim, and is sponsored by Gold Medal Sponsors, FocusMD, Regency Square, St. Christopher’s School, and Virginia Family Dentistry; Silver Medal Sponsor, Ortho Virginia; and Bronze Medal Sponsor, Mathnasium.
