Sign Up to Dunk Hunger! RVA Pools and Swim Teams Can Help End Chronic Hunger

Join Dunk Hunger – a Community Effort to End
Chronic Hunger in Central Virginia!

While many families think of summer as the season of play and travel, others in Central Virginia are wondering where their next meal is coming from. That’s why Dunk Hunger, the food drive to benefit FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank, is so important.

Since RFM launched Dunk Hunger in 2012, our efforts have resulted in over 215,000 meals for the families FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank serves! We are mighty proud of this incredible contribution.

As many participating pools from all over Richmond know, Dunk Hunger is a rewarding way to do good as a family and as a community. And unlike cancer or other diseases that devastate so many families, chronic hunger is something we can fix!

Register your pool or swim team here!

First, make sure your pool or swim team is signed up, so you you can be a part of this outreach effort from the start.

Next, ask your friends at other pools all over Richmond to sign up because every donation (whether it’s ten bucks or a jar of peanut butter) makes a difference. Remember, we can fix this!

A homemade Dunk Hunger sign will help this collection bin at a local pool fill up fast.

Then, all summer long, support Dunk Hunger at your pool by adding to the donation bins or boxes when you visit your pool. You can also ask friends and family to make an online donation to support FeedMore’s efforts to end chronic hunger. And for the first time, you can drop off donations at Dunk Hunger partner, Virginia Family Dentistry, serving Richmond families with thirteen area offices.

Remember, working with RFM to Dunk Hunger is a great way to help your kids get service hours that are required by some area schools. Many families make signs and sponsor contests to boost donations at their local pools. And someone will have to deliver all those food donations to the convenient drop-site at FeedMore. (A great assignment and more service hours for your new teen driver!) For ideas on how to make Dunk Hunger successful at your pool, read one area teen’s tips. Jack McSorley spearheaded the Dunk Hunger Gold Medal-winning efforts at Canterbury Recreation Association.

And here’s the really cool part, the pool club or team that collects and delivers the most donations to FeedMore and raises the most funding by August 31 will receive a $1,000 cash prize. This year, it could be your swim team or pool club!

With RFM’s partner, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and the Virginia Swim Shop, we are grateful for our Dunk Hunger sponsors to-date: Gold Medal – Virginia Family Dentistry and Pediatric Associates of Richmond. Silver Medal – Wegmans and Serenity Swim School. Bronze Medal –  Mathnasium.

If you own a business in the area, you can dive in as a corporate sponsor! Email margaret@RFMonline.com and learn how your  business can join the fight to end hunger in Central Virginia this summer.
