March is here, which means – hooray!

Spring is right around the corner! And with spring comes thoughts of… that’s right – summer! We’re ready to help you plan out both, with a jam-packed calendar of spring and Easter events in this issue, and all the help you’ll need to book your kids’ summer camps, too.

First, check out Margie Sims’ feature on page fourteen. She talked to families, a bestselling nature author, and area camp directors about why summer camp is important, and after reading it, we think you’ll agree. Then, hit our website to peruse over 275(!) day and overnight camps from across the region. The best thing about this monster list is that you can filter it by area of town, activities, and/or age range – how cool is that?!

Finally, mark your calendar for our annual RFM Summer Adventure Expo, on Sunday, April 17. We’ll be back at Peak Experiences from one to four o’clock with tons of area summer camps on-hand to give you the 4-1-1 on their plans for this summer. There will be live entertainment, games, prizes, a food truck, and of course, kids get a free climb on the rock walls inside Peak Experiences. It’s rain or shine, so don’t miss it!

And with spring comes new things blooming everywhere, and did you notice what’s new with RFM? That’s right, our cover! After seventy-seven super cute, real Richmond kids have graced our cover, one at a time, we thought it was time to make a few changes. From now on, the cover will tell a more compelling story of what RFM is all about on the inside. After all, we’ve always been a family-lifestyle magazine for Richmonders of all ages in all walks of life. Going forward, that’s exactly what we hope each cover conveys!

Everyone loved this February cover that highlighted Sportable athlete Elijah and the feature that went with it on social opportunities in RVA for families with kids who have special needs. And this month, we’ve headed outside to one of our favorite places to enjoy nature play – Maymont – with not one, but two real Richmond cuties. Who knows what might be in store for our upcoming covers – dare we say that a grown-up, or even a pet, may find themselves on the RFM cover?

Stay tuned to find out, and remember, we might look a little different, but you’ll still find RFM free (like always!) at all the usual spots. And you’ll also find the same inspiring, informative, and entertaining content you’ve come to expect from RFM each month, with something for families at every stage of the game!

Margaret Thompson never thought she’d be a business owner (or a mom for that matter!), but after realizing a need for a high quality, content-focused magazine for Richmond area families, she dove in! With twenty years of marketing and project management under her belt, she pulls all of the pieces together each month to get RFM out to our eager readers. Mom of two teen boys, Margaret and her husband Chris live in Hanover County.
