The cooler and shorter days mean October has arrived in Richmond!
And if that doesn’t convince you, that cute little cheetah on our cover will! Yes, it’s time to carve the pumpkins, stock up on candy, and make that all-important Halloween decision: make or buy the costume. We want to know which you decide to do, so answer this month’s poll online, and after that, share a picture of your costumed cuties on our Facebook page! After years of store-bought and hand-medown costumes, I’ll be attempting to make two robots this year. The expectations are high, so wish me luck – and yes, I’ll post a picture too, so be on the lookout!
There are so many fun things to do in Richmond and around the state this month, you won’t know where to start when you check out our monster October calendar! We’ll make our annual pilgrimage to Carter Mountain Orchard for some apple picking, and we might even visit Monticello while we’re there. I also plan to take the boys to Young Tom Jefferson, Va Rep’s new musical for kids. In honor of the upcoming election, I recommend a visit to Mount Vernon, the home of our nation’s fi rst president, George Washington. It’s an easy drive, and once you get off of the dreaded I-95, it’s a lovely, almost rural-feeling trip down the tree-lined George Washington Parkway to get to the riverfront property. Don’t forget your camera!
October also marks RFM’s three-year anniversary, which is so hard to believe! I feel like we just brought you the first issue. Remember this cute little fairy in green on our debut cover? And now we’re on issue number 37 – wow! To celebrate, we brought together almost all of our cover kids for a fun reunion and photo shoot. Be sure to check out our pictorial and fi nd out what some of our RFM Cover Kids have been up to since their 15 minutes of fame. We’re looking forward to bringing you a lot more issues and coffee table-worthy “real Richmond kids,” and on behalf of everyone on the RFM team, thank you for coming along for the ride!
