Wouldn’t you like to know?
Every once in a while, I’ll find a local Richmonder we’d all like to know a bit morabout. Same questions each time, from the Prying Publisher (that’s me!) and the answers are just for you.
This month, I talked to Robin Starr, chief executive officer of the Richmond SPCA, mother of a teen, wife, and former practicing attorney. As a member of the SPCA’s board of directors, Robin’s commitment to animal welfare was integral in helping Richmond raise over $14 million to build one of the country’s most highly regarded humane centers. “Of course, our first responsibility was to the animals, but we also sought to create a humane center that would be an inviting place for human families to visit,” Robin said.
Under her leadership, the SPCA transitioned to a no-kill model two years ahead of its original goal of 2008, making Richmond one of the four safest places in the country for homeless pets. Today, Robin speaks at national seminars and consults with communities seeking to put the Richmond model in place. She is also a trustee of the Richmond Ballet and a member of the Virginia State Bar
