Tell Me More: Tips for a Successful Dinner

Chef Christine’s tips for a successful family dinner – no matter where you have it!

1. Give everyone a task in getting the table ready for the meal, so mom or dad aren’t the ones constantly getting up and down serving everyone. Someone can get the water or milk, put out the napkins, or get the flatware.

2. Stick to one meal for everyone. Your kitchen is not a restaurant! Avoid hearing the phrase, I don’t like dinner! by making sure there is at least one thing on the plate that kids will eat.

3. Change up the conversation. Rather than the same, How was your day? or Do you like dinner? ask about special projects, or explore suggestions for what the family should do together over the weekend–like cooking family breakfast one morning.

Margaret Thompson never thought she’d be a business owner (or a mom for that matter!), but after realizing a need for a high quality, content-focused magazine for Richmond area families, she dove in!
