Behind the Shell: the W.M.R. & Seven Pines Bag Loading 

With America’s entry into World War I, the land on which the town of Sandston and the airport now occupy, played an important role in the war effort.  Local businessmen lobbied DuPont and the government to construct a powder bag loading plant. The Women’s Munition Reserve recruited, trained, and staffed the plant with jobs designed for women. Historian, Lisa Denton, explores the story of the creation of the plant, the workforce, and the important role it contributed to World War I.
