Auditions for Cadence’s “Annie JR” at the Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse this December

Cadence is pleased to announce auditions for Annie JR. This intergenerational production will feature Richmond’s favorite professional actors working alongside some of the city’s most talented kids.

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR features everyone’s favorite orphan in her very first adventure.

Cast from a previous Annie Jr. camp/show at Cadence Theatre performs outdoors in Richmond.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Cadence is seeking children and youth ages 6 to 14 for the following roles: Annie, Molly, July, Pepper, Kate, Duffy, Tessie, and the orphan and NYC child ensemble.  Cadence will be accepting virtual auditions through Thursday, September 8.

Callbacks will be in person at the Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse Sunday, September 11 from 10 am to 12 pm. All rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons until December; rehearsals begin Sunday, September 18. Annie JR is produced through the Cadence Winter Rehearsal & Performance Program. This is a tuition-based program ($695 for the semester if cast or $173.75 per month, September through December, plus a $50 costume fee per child). Each actor will receive two free tickets to the production.
