Bbgb announces the recipient of its eleventh anniversary scholarship of $1,000. Lucy, a senior at Hermitage High School, discovered the scholarship through Partnership for the Future, a nonprofit college and workforce prep program in Richmond.
Lucy is looking forward to graduating this June, and attending University of Virginia in the fall, where she will study political and social thought and African American studies. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to go to law school. Her favorite book is The Poet x by Elizabeth Acevedo.
Bbgb’s eleventh anniversary scholarship was created to be as accessible to high school seniors as possible. The minimal application requires only basic contact info, and an essay response a prompt. For this year, it was the question: What is a book that you think everyone in your community should read and why?
Since the selection process was influenced solely by the application’s essay portion, choosing one candidate was a very difficult decision for our staff to make. There were many strong essays, and we thoroughly enjoyed reading and discussing them all.
We want to thank everyone who applied for and supported our very first scholarship, as well as everyone who supports this little shop in general. We’re delighted to share that we’ll be offering this scholarship annually, with the next program to be announced this fall.
Warm congratulations to all graduating seniors.
