Latin Ballet of Virginia presents El Dia de los Muertos Festival and Dance Theatre Production at the Cultural Arts Center
The Cultural Arts Center and The Latin Ballet of Virginia present “El Dia de los Muertos” festival on Saturday, October 26 from noon to 4pm. The event is free and open to the public. Come celebrate Halloween in the Hispanic-Mexican tradition. The festival will include live music, dancing, arts & crafts, sweets-and-treats, food and various art exhibits.
El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration of one of the most traditional Mexican festivities. This Aztec ritual and commemoration started 3,000 years ago. It is a festive interaction that embraces the cycle of life. Mesoamerican natives, African-Americans and Spanish blend their traditions during the celebration.
This festival will be the same weekend as the fall dance production of El Dia de los Muertos performed by the Latin Ballet of Virginia. The performances will be Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27. Times for the performances are: Friday, 10:30 am and 7:30 pm, Saturday, 7:30 pm and Sunday, 3 pm. Joining the Latin Ballet of Virginia in this dance performance will be international artists and choreographers CatherineMarie Davalos and Rogelio Lopez, performing the authentic Aztec ceremony from Mexico, together with founder of the VCU department of dance and pioneer of the dance in Virginia, Frances Wessells. Tickets for the dance performance are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, student, and $10 for groups of 10 or more.
