Chesterfield Co. Extension Offers Financial Programs

As part of America Saves Week (Feb. 23–March 1), a week set aside annually to promote good savings behavior, the Chesterfield County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering a workshop called Making Your Money Go Further on Thursday, Feb. 20, 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m. Participants will receive tips on how to gain control of their financial situation and determine how much money they have to save and spend to accomplish their financial goals.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Preregistration is encouraged. For more information and to register for the workshop, contact Linda Jackson Cole, family and consumer sciences extension agent, 804-751-4401. The workshop will be held at the Chesterfield County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension, 6807 Mimms Loop, at the government complex.

In addition to the workshop, Cooperative Extension is launching an online financial challenge in collaboration with Rutgers Cooperative Extension as part of America Saves Week. The 2014 America Saves Financial Challenge is a free five-week program beginning Sunday, Feb. 23–Saturday, March 29. Registration opens on Monday, Feb. 3.

The America Saves Financial Challenge is based on ten daily recommended financial practices that include personal actions such as tracking money spent and completing an online personal finance calculation or financial quiz. Doing even one of the ten recommended daily financial practices is a great way to get started on the path to increased personal wealth and financial security. The more activities in the America Saves Financial Challenge that participants perform, the better their financial progress.
