Richmond, VA (July 28, 2015) – The Central Virginia Book Bank (powered by The Children’s Museum of Richmond) will host a celebration at Bellwood Elementary School, Tuesday, August 4, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm to mark a milestone: The Book Bank has given away 100,00 books.
In middle-income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1. In low-income neighborhoods, the ratio is a staggering one (age-appropriate) book per every 300 children. Thus, this is an extremely exciting achievement for us in furthering our mission through necessary outreach.
As August 4th is also National Night Out, this celebration is open to the public and we encourage the community to come out for book-giveaways, games, visits with CMoR’s mascot, Seymour the Dinosaur, and caricature drawings. Book donations are welcome.
About the Central Virginia Children’s Book Bank: The Children’s Book Bank exists to put as many books as possible into the hands and lives of children in need. By providing opportunities for children to read and be read to, the Children’s Book Bank is an important tool in improving school readiness for Pre-K children and enhancing literacy in school-aged children.
