Global Girl: Thriving in the Age of Contradiction, an important one-day event hosted by Orchard House School, will bring together educators, parents, community leaders and internationally acclaimed experts to address the challenges and contradictions faced by today’s adolescents and adults. Global Girl will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at The John Marshall from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is open now through March 1.

“We look forward to welcoming the Richmond community to hear and learn from national and internationally respected speakers to examine mindfulness, technology, leadership and education, and how we and our children can successfully navigate and balance these increasingly interconnected aspects of our lives,” said Nancy Davies, Founding Head of Orchard House School.

Speakers include:

Will Richardson: Education and Technology Richardson is a co-founder of Powerful Learning Practice and Modern Learner Media. He is a national advisory board member of the George Lucas Education Foundation and a regular columnist for District Administration Magazine.

Dr. Catherine Kerr: Mindfulness and Meaning Dr. Kerr studies mindfulness and the brain-body connection at her mind-in-body lab at Brown University.

Carl Honoré: Pace and Connection Carl Honoré is an award-winning journalist, author, and TED speaker. After debuting his book “In Praise of Slowness: How A Worldwide Movement Is Challenging the Cult of Speed,” Honoré earned the title “Father of the Slow Movement.”

Sally Helgesen: Leadership and Vision Helgesen is the author of six books, most recently The Female Vision: Women’s Real Power at Work.

The symposium speakers will explore causes and coping mechanisms in this increasingly fast-paced, over-programmed society, from insights on female leadership in the workplace to stress’s impact on the brain and body and our ability to heal, to social online learning and what it can do to remake our classrooms.

Seating is limited. A catered lunch is included in the price of $145, and authors will be on hand to sign books. Educators are eligible for educational credit. The John Marshall is located at 101 North Fifth Street in downtown Richmond, Virginia.
