Children’s advocate Vicki Beatty receives Greater Richmond ARC Ladybug award

Vicki_Beatty-Receiving_LB_Award_from_Thom_HorseyThe Greater Richmond ARC, serving people with developmental disabilities of all ages, presented Vicki Beatty, head of Virginia Parent Advocates, with its Ladybug Award at the annual ARC Ladybug Wine Dinner fundraiser on Sunday, October 19.

The Ladybug Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated meritorious service to young children with disabilities and their families in greater Richmond.
“This award showcases individuals in our community who are helping children,” said Kim Watson, ARC’s vice president of development. “Vicki is dedicated to helping those who can’t always help themselves. She is a role model for everyone.”

Beatty began advocating for children with disabilities nearly 20 years ago when her first child, Davis, was born with a genetic anomaly. She was one of ARC’s first “Power Moms” who helped to create programming where children with and without disabilities could learn and play together. More recently, she has been a spokesperson for the organization’s ARCpark, the first all-inclusive park in central Virginia, that’s scheduled to begin construction later this year .
Beatty is also the founder of Virginia Parent Advocates, an organization dedicated to ensuring that children with special needs receive the quality education and life services to which they are entitled under state and federal laws.

“Vicki never wants to see a child sitting on the sidelines,” Watson concluded.
