HeartsApart.org project expands to Mechanicsville to provide family portraits for Armed Forces at no cost

Wilmington, NC, 12/7/11 – HeartsApart.org, the organization created to keep families connected while military men and women are serving abroad, has officially reached the Richmond area. Mechanicsville photographers Dale and Roshan Quarterman of Quarterman Photography will provide one of the first photo sessions for a Northern Virginia military family at no cost on Saturday, December 10th.

HeartsApart.org provides soon to be deployed servicemen and women with pictures of their spouse and children by matching families with professional photographers across the country. The photographs are printed on waterproof, bi-folded vinyl cards which fit securely in soldier’s uniform pockets. Sessions include hair and makeup styling, a digital copy of the photographs and the folded vinyl prints at no cost.

“We knew we had to volunteer our time to HeartsApart.org because we feel so strongly about giving back to the men and women that put so much on the line everyday to protect our freedom” said Dale Quarterman. Continued Roshan Quarterman, “We knew it would be an honor to create memories for soldiers who have sacrificed so much. For us, it’s a very small way to say thank you.”

The Quarterman’s have been in business together since 1996. Dale is a former professor of photography at Virginia Commonwealth University and was Chairman of the Photography and Film Department within the School of Art. His fine art photography has been published in popular and scholarly books and magazines, and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Founded in North Carolina, HeartsApart.org now includes photographers across the country. “Our goal is simple. As long as servicemen and women are in harms way and separated from their families, we will be taking pictures,” said Brett Martin, Executive Director. “There is no end to the project – just a commitment to continue to serve our Armed Forces while they serve us.”

The 501c3 non-profit has been operating for just over a year. Martin stated, “This project is too big for anyone to take on alone. Without the help of sponsors, volunteers and donations, this would be impossible. We all owe it to our troops to get involved.”

HeartsApart.org asks that photographers, makeup artists, hairstylists, wardrobe stylists and most importantly local financial donors and sponsors join the cause. Donations can be made at  www.HeartsApart.org. Families of soon to be deployed Armed Forces are invited to visitwww.heartsapart.org to schedule their family portrait.

Dale and Roshan Quarterman are available for commercial, family and personal portraits at 804-779-2118.
