There are several variations on the classic story of Scrooge, but most don’t contain as much tongue-in-cheek humor as Richmond Triangle Players current presentation of Scrooge in Rouge.
An English Music Hall Christmas Carol, the show gives you an intimate look at three harried actors who end up playing all the roles in the story of Scrooge after their cast mates get sick. A play-within-a-play, Scrooge in Rouge features a trio of misfits that include Lauren Leinhass-Cook as Scrooge, Steve Boschen as diva Lottie, and Charlie Schmaltz as Kirk. Pianist Alfred da Capo accompanies the trio on the piano.
The fun show is filled with over-the-top characterizations that often draw the audience into the mayhem. Intimate in its staging and performances, the zany production is as cozy as a performance staged by friends in their home.
The actors play off of each other well and often get lost in the moment, trying to hold back their own laughter. Their take on the classic story is cheeky and sometimes a little naughty, but it’s one that will put a smile on face.
