Beverly L. Cocke is the 2015 Henrico Country Christmas Mother

The Henrico Christmas Mother Council is pleased to announce that Beverly L. Cocke has been chosen to serve as the 2015 Henrico Christmas Mother. Beverly began working with the Henrico Christmas Mother program as an annual member in 2007. As a member of the toy committee, she continues to serve this program with her time and keen insights.

As a life-long resident of Henrico County, Beverly has always been actively involved in her community. She has been a parent advocate, PTA president, founding member of the Friends of Glen Allen Library, Girl Scout Leader, substitute teacher, and was appointed repeatedly to several county boards, including the Henrico Historic Preservation Advisory Committee where she served for twelve years.

Beverly is a product of Henrico County schools. After graduating from Hermitage High School, she received her BA degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked in a variety of management positions for Thalhimers Department Store until 1992. As a member of Glen Allen Baptist Church, Beverly serves as the church historian. She and her husband, Jack, have four adult children.

Beverly’s eagerness to make a difference in her community led her to seek election to the Henrico County School Board as the representative from the Brookland District in November, 2011. She was elected as chairman of the School Board in 2013. Today she continues to represent her district on this board.

The Henrico Christmas Mother provides new toys, clothing, books and food to qualified families with children, seniors and disabled adults who are residents of Henrico County. It is a 501 (c)(3) organization, governed by an all-volunteer council made-up of former Henrico Christmas Mothers and representatives of each of Henrico’s five magisterial districts.

The organization is supported solely by contributions from the community. Anyone who wishes to make a contribution may do so by mailing a check to Henrico Christmas Mother, P. O. Box 70338, Henrico, VA 232055-0338. To donate online or for more information about sponsoring a family, volunteering, or applying for assistance, visit www.henricochristmasmother.org.
