Join Henrico County Public Library for All Henrico Reads with Sy Montgomery

The Henrico County Public Library, in partnership with Henrico County Public Schools, and the Friends of Henrico County Public Library will host internationally bestselling author and National Book Award Finalist Sy Montgomery, on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Glen Allen High School, 10700 Staples Mill Road, Glen Allen, 23060.  Copies of her works will be available for sale and she will autograph books following the program.

Sy Montgomery is an award winning naturalist and author of children’s and adult nonfiction whose books about animals and the people who study them have garnered wide acclaim.  Her most recent work, The Soul of An Octopus, the 2017 All Henrico Reads featured title, was praised by many as among the best nonfiction books of 2015-16, and was a finalist for the National Book Award.  The book is an artfully written, accessible, and scientific discussion of the author’s experiences working with and learning about octopuses, whose complex physiology and behavior imply a consciousness that is in many ways similar to our own.  Ms. Montgomery’s absorbing reflections on her relationships with octopuses and their individual personalities inspires wonder in the reader and lends the book emotional depth.  Donna Seaman of Booklist wrote, “Montgomery’s uniquely intimate portrait of the elusive octopus profoundly recalibrates our perception of consciousness, communication, and community.”

All Henrico Reads is a community reading program that provides an opportunity for individuals to come together through a shared reading experience and discussion.

This event is free and open to the public.  Seating will be first come, first served.  Attendees can enter to win $100 gift certificates to The Boathouse Restaurant, The Science Museum of Virginia, and The Metro Richmond Zoo, courtesy of the Friends of the Henrico County Public Library.  Doors will open at 6:15 pm. Additional information is available at Henrico Reads.
