Make a Difference Day 2013

The Pediatric Connection is thrilled to announce that this year they will support ART 180 as part of their annual Make a Difference Day celebration and 5k race. The goal is to raise money in support of this wonderful non-profit organization dedicated to providing art-related programs for young people living in challenging circumstances. These programs encourage personal and community change throughout Richmond, Virginia.

Make a Difference Day was started in 1992 by USA Weekend magazine, and has grown to become the most encompassing national day of helping others. It is held annually on the fourth Saturday of October, and millions of Americans are rallied into a single day of action to help change the world.

The Pediatric Connection would like to ask you to help change the world of children right here in Virginia, by participating in Make a Difference Day activities. Come on out on October 26th and enjoy a full day of fun! In addition to a 5k walk/run (offering two beautiful views of the Richmond city skyline as participants cross over the Manchester Bridge and Mayo Bridge) and children’s fun run, there will be live music, food vendors, a beer truck, face-painting, kid’s games and so much more!

After a fun family day in the historic Manchester district, the event will culminate the following week with First Fridays at Atlas, ART 180’s art center for teens. There, patients of The Pediatric Connection and their siblings will have their very own artwork—self-portraits depicting how THEY Make a Difference in their community—on display. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and show their support of young ones!

About ART 180:
ART 180 gives young people in challenging circumstances the chance to express themselves through art, and to share their stories with others. Since 1998, the nonprofit organization has worked with youth in the Richmond area to create art that explains and illustrates their feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Partnering with other organizations that serve young people, ART 180 designs projects that allow for self-expression, and creates venues for this expression in the community. The name reflects their vision of turning lives and communities around 180 degrees. ART 180 also operates Atlas, an art center for teens in Jackson Ward.
