National Marriage Experts Speak in Mechanicsville

Seven hundred better their marriages at upcoming two-day conference National marriage experts speak in Mechanicsville

Out of 5,562 marriages, there were 3,655 divorces in the Metro Richmond Area in 2011, according to the Richmond City Health District.

To reverse this trend, hundreds will attend “The Surprising Way to a Stronger Marriage” conference featuring marriage builders Michael and Amy Smalley hosted by First Things First of Greater Richmond at Mechanicsville Christian Center. Registration is still open at www.FirstThingsRichmond.org.

The event will take place on Friday from 7-9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Mechanicsville Christian Center, 8061 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.

Both clinical psychologists and best-selling authors, the Smalleys have shared their knowledge with millions around the world through entertaining stories and illustrations, allowing their audiences to learn through laughter.

The Smalleys will cover the following topics:

· Why Marriages are Miserable
· The Secret to Sexual Intimacy
· Resolving Your Toughest Conflicts
· Creating a Marriage Worth Being in
· The Unbreakable Marriage
According to Jeff Ukrop, board chairman for First Things First, “Some couples are in great shape, some are struggling and some will lie about it. Regardless of where we stand, we can all use a tune-up for our marriages, just like our cars. The Smalleys will provide a humorous and engaging seminar –a terrific tune-up for Richmonders to enhance their marriages.”

Couples will enjoy “Date Night” raffle giveaways from local donors including The Berkeley Hotel, The Linden Row Inn, The One Bed and Breakfast, Family Life, Love Like That, Marriage Matters at Mechanicsville Christian Center, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Riverside Dinner Theater, Best Western Fredericksburg, Wine and Design, Metro Richmond Zoo, Blanchard’s Coffee Company, The Continental, Sticks Kebob Shop, and Bogeys Sports Park.

About the speakers

Amy Smalley specializes in teaching women and couples the principles of loving well and loving for a lifetime. Her popularity as a nationally renowned marriage builder and couples expert quickly grew through her signature straightforward, no-nonsense advice. Amy’s message inspires, motivates and challenges people to thrive in their most important relationships. Amy has enjoyed 17 years of marriage to only Michael and makes her home near Houston, Texas. They have three children, Cole, Reagan, and David.

Michael Smalley’s passion is in teaching couples the principles of loving well and loving for a lifetime. Michael has authored several best-selling relationship advice books. For the past 17-years he has spoken to millions of people around the world through his live events, international evangelistic events, and special speaking. In 2005, Michael and his wife launched the Smalley Center, working hand-in-hand with couples to teach them valuable skills to maintain their marriages.
First Things First of Greater Richmond is a community nonprofit dedicated to strengthening families for a better community by: advocating for strong, healthy, lifelong marriages; increasing fathers’ and mothers’ active involvement in the lives of their children; and working to prevent out-of-wedlock and teen pregnancies in the greater Richmond area.
