New Concert Series at Firehouse in February

Some of the greatest musicians you’ve never heard of will be coming from their porches throughout Virginia to share their stories and music at Firehouse.

Whether affixed to the front of a country cabin or attached to an urban tenement, porches have witnessed and fostered the birth of a lot of great American music, and American talent. Tapping into that proud tradition and preserving it, filmmaker Christian D’Andrea and Firehouse Theatre will be recreating an Appalachian porch on Broad Street to host Virginia’s remarkable folk minstrels, balladeers, pickers, bards, and storytellers.

Created by Christian D’Andrea, The Porch concert series will feature the talents of artists Wayne Henderson, Stevie Barr, Willard Gayheart, Scott Freeman, Dori Freeman, Eddie and Bonnie Bond, Red and Allie Knierim, Mac and Jenny Traynham, Larry Burnett, and more.

When asked about his inspiration for The Porch the series D’Andrea said, “Porches are a special kind of musical incubator, especially in Virginia. I’ve traveled throughout the state and visited folks who still play and compose on porches. And I’ve noticed that the melodies being preserved on porches carry important history, tradition, and lore –transmitting insights about joy and pain that are relevant and meaningful to all of us. I’ve bonded with the folks I’ve visited, and I’m eager to share the music and stories that I’ve experienced.”

The Porch series is happening at Firehouse Theatre. Go here for tickets and showtimes.
