NEW DRAMA WOW THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM PREPARES STUDENTS TO SPEAK UP

– Shy, reserved, energetic and talkative children can all thrive in DRAMA WOW’s lively new acting classes geared for ages 7 through 13.  The elements of story – fiction, nonfiction, poetry and plays – are explored as students learn and apply presentation techniques and public speaking skills.  A variety of learning styles, interests and abilities is accommodated by differentiated instruction in DRAMA WOW courses.

Founder and instructor Minnyone Davis is a local elementary school teacher and mother with 15 years of teaching and staff development experience that began in her hometown of New York City. She earned her Bachelors degree in Theatre and Drama from Spelman College.  A Masters degree in Education followed from Mercy College.

Davis devised her curriculum using drama as a tool to help young people develop life skills and grow through the art of acting. Classes are structured to challenge each student according to their individual abilities. Through ensemble work, DRAMA WOW teaches commitment, brainstorming techniques, teamwork, conflict resolution and perseverance in a fast-paced environment. Notes Ms. Davis, “In order to be respected by young people, you must respect them as well. If you believe children can achieve, then they will.”

DRAMA WOW holds classes at the Lessons in Ballroom Dance Center located at 2312 John Rolfe Parkway in western Henrico County. Second through fifth graders are currently being registered for winter/spring classes, and second through eighth for summer/fall 2012 classes. Information about classes and schedules can be found at www.dramawow.com or by contacting Minnyone Davis at (804) 651-5832.
