The Greater Richmond ARC announces respite schedule for upcoming holidays
–November and December traditionally months where caregivers need help
CHESTERFIELD, Va. (October 29, 2012)– The holiday season can be stressful, especially when also caring for a loved one with developmental disabilities, says the Greater Richmond ARC, which holds a year-round weekend respite program at Camp Baker, its 22-acre wooded retreat in Chesterfield.
November and December’s weekend respite sessions for adults with developmental disabilities (ages 18+) are 6 p.m. on Friday through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2-4; 16-18; 23-25, and Nov. 30, Dec. 1 -2. A weekend respite program for children with developmental disabilities (ages 10-17) is 6 p.m. on Friday through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9-11, and Dec. 14-16. Costs per weekend are $593.86 or the equivalent in Medicaid waiver hours.
“Caregivers have one less worry over the holidays when they use our respite program because they know they are leaving their loved ones in an environment with a skilled staff that understands their needs,” says Quintin Mitchell, ARC’s vice president of developmental services. “Our goal is to provide activities that enhance a person’s life, including everything from music and arts and crafts, to community outings.”
Additionally, Camp Baker provides emergency respite services for individuals with developmental disabilities from the ages of six and up who may require temporary housing and care.
