RFM’s First-Ever Education Expo Slated for September 22

Speakers and Topics Announced for Free Education Event at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Dewey-Gottwald Center

Richmond Family Magazine (RFM) presents the RFM Education Expo, sponsored by Virginia529, Sunday, September 22, from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m., at the Dewey Gottwald Center, at the Science Museum of Virginia.

Educational consultants, tutors, financial aid planners, and representatives from private schools and community colleges across the Richmond area will provide area families with information and planning tools on the topic of education during this free family event.

“Parents have been asking about this kind of education event where they could tour the tables and meet school and business representatives,” says RFM Publisher Margaret Thompson. “RFM created this event to bring area schools and education resources together under one roof to make it easy for parents and caregivers. We have a packed afternoon planned for area families to learn more about the education opportunities available in our area.”

In addition to over 40 exhibitor tables, the Education Expo will include a speaker stage and a panel stage, moderated by NBC 12 morning anchor, Sarah Bloom. “We have a wide array of topics and experts in the education field scheduled to present on both stages and take questions from the audience,” says Thompson. “From computer science in schools, to single gender education, to how to choose the right school for your child, there is something for everyone.” Representatives from Virginia529 and GRASP will also be in attendance and will speak about saving for and paying for college.

While parents, grandparents, and caregivers take in the Expo, Romp n’ Roll and the Children’s Museum will keep the kids busy in the Kids’ Zone with interactive games and fun.

After the Expo, visitors can get free admission to the Science Museum of Virginia for the remainder of the day. Education Expo attendees can also enter to win a deluxe door prize: a two-night holiday package at Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center, including tickets to ICE!, breakfast one morning, parking, taxes, and resort fees, valued at $1,000.
