Richmond-Area Blood Bank for Pets Seeks Donations

Dogwood Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center announces the opening of the Dogwood Veterinary Blood Bank at their facility in Richmond.

The blood bank will provide blood products for the hospital and surrounding practices to help companion animals in need of transfusions. Dogwood Veterinary Blood Bank is currently looking for both canines and felines who can donate blood to help save the lives of other pets.

The following are basic requirements for eligible donors: between one and years of age, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and on monthly flea/tick prevention, on monthly heartworm prevention (dogs), no prior pregnancies, and no history of blood transfusions.

Dogs must weigh at least 50 pounds, and cats (indoor cats only) must weigh at least nine pounds. If your pet fits these criteria, and you are interested in providing the gift of life to other furry companions, call Kellett Babb, DVM, and Alice Hatley, LVT, at 804-716-4700, or email bloodbank.rva@bluepearlvet.com to set up an appointment.
