NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Zoo is joining four other major Norfolk attractions, Norfolk Botanical Garden, d’ART Center, Nauticus and Old Dominion University, to offer children the ultimate camp experience during Spring Break, April 1-5, 2013.
The Norfolk Camp Sampler is a unique new collaboration providing children, ages 5 to 8, an opportunity to sample the best camp programs in Norfolk. It will allow children to “test the waters” and explore a variety of interests like Animals, Nature, Art, Aquatics and Adventure, in order to help parents answer the question “What would my child like to spend a week doing this summer?” and make an informed decision when selecting a summer camp, or camps.
Youngsters can try five camps in five days during spring break, spending a day at each attraction; painting at the d’ART Center, walking on the Wisconsin at Nauticus, exploring World of Wonders: A Children’s Adventure Garden at the Norfolk Botanical Garden, climbing a rock wall at Old Dominion University and experiencing a close animal encounter at the Virginia Zoo.
“It’s really a taste of great things to offer kids in Norfolk,” said Greg Bockheim, executive director of the Virginia Zoo. “This city offers an amazing array of family-oriented attractions and activities for people from across Hampton Roads and beyond.”
The Norfolk Camp Sampler is $200 for the week and meets 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, at a different attraction each day. Children ages 5 to 8 from across Hampton Roads are encouraged to participate. The deadline to enroll is March 20, 2013, though available spaces may fill sooner.
