Student-Run Conference to Debate Global Issues

RichmondVA—Over 560 students coming from Baltimore to Virginia Beach and points in-between will assemble March 22 and 23 at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School to participate in the Sixteenth Annual Governor’s School Model United Nations Conference (GSMUN XVI). With a staff of over 80 students, the conference is entirely student run.

“Model United Nations allows students to simulate real-life situations, practice diplomacy, and create resolutions,” states Leon Jia, Director General of the conference. “Promoting leadership and effective communication skills, the conference gives delegates an experience unlike any they could get in a classroom.”

GSMUN XVI staff and participants will raise funds to support Free the Children, an international organization promoting access to alternative income, health care, and water across the globe. Last year’s conference raised over $7,500 for charity.
