Youth education is kicking into gear at Swift Creek Mill Theatre. Two classes for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will run from March through May. In July and August, there are two performance camps for children in rising grades five through twelve.

After School Classes
Monday Performing Arts Class
Ages: Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
Dates: 8 consecutive Mondays beginning March 13th
Time: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Cost: $200
Description: In this fun, exploratory movement and performance camp, students will spend eight weeks engaging with the foundations of theatre. They will dive into imagination through story books and learn to work together by building off of each other’s ideas. Each class session will focus on a different world and story. They will discover different aspects of theatre including costumes, acting, and set arranging. There will be a final share on the last day of camp for families.
Tuesday Performing Arts Class
Ages: 3rd Grade – 5th Grade
Dates: 8 consecutive Tuesdays beginning March 14th
Time: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Cost: $200
Description: In this theatre foundations class, students will develop hands on skills that harness the powers of creativity. They will develop ideas for improvisation games and world building. Each child will learn about the various aspects of theatre including acting, costuming, lighting, and set design. They will gain confidence by working up to being solo on the stage and writing their own scenes. There will be a final share on the last day of class for families.
Performance Camps
In these two week-long performance camps, students will audition, be cast, and perform in respective musicals. During this time, kids will also explore different facets of theatre such as set building, lighting, stage management, and acting.
Frozen Jr. Performance Camp
Ages: Rising grades 5th – 8th
Dates: July 10th – 21st, performances on July 21st and 22nd
Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Cost: $650
Description: A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen Jr. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey through Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen Jr. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart.
Guys and Dolls Jr. Performance Camp
Ages: Rising grades 9th – 12th
Dates: July 24th – August 4th, performances on August 4th and 5th
Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Cost: $650
Description: Guys and Dolls Jr. follows gambler, Nathan, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile his girlfriend, Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for years without getting married. Nathan turns to former girlfriend, Sky, for the money but she has other plans. Guys and Dolls Jr. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong.
Historic Swift Creek Mill Theatre is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization offering mainstage and youth productions, educational programs, dining, cabarets, wine dinners, and event and catering services. Housed in a former grist mill, the theatre is listed as one of the oldest landmarks in the nation (circa 1663).
