It’s 1944, backstage and onstage at a military base in the South Pacific (a warm and welcome respite this time of year!). A much-awaited USO performance threatens to cancel before it premiers because the main act, the top-of-the-charts Andrew Sisters, are no-shows. But the show must go on, so three stagehands — winsome brothers who are limelight wanna-bes — dress the part and impersonate their female idols. To everyone’s enjoyment, the male trio handsomely harmonizes and dandily dances (in heels, no less!) to twenty-nine songs the Andrew Sisters made famous, including memorables like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive,” “Slow Boat to China,” and more.
The Andrew Brothers – that’s right, brothers, not sisters – is a high-energy, musical salute to our heroes of WWII. It’s also silly slapstick with some fun-tastic audience participation. Complemented by a super-talented lead singer and 8-piece orchestra, theirs is a performance that won’t soon be forgotten by America’s jiving GIs – or you.
